Another run down....25 miles. 24.63 to be exact but calling it close enough. I think I could have thrown in the towel at 10 miles. We started off today at 2:30am. Not even going to go there. Slightly groggy I think a Red Bull would do the trick. Mistake #1. Sip it on my way down Green River road and I do feel a bit more alive. Now, you would think at 2:30am Green River road would be dead, yes? No. We forgot that bars close at 3am. Mistake #2. I'll be honest when I say I was a bit concerned about this, but we ran in well lit areas and all was well.
Around mile 3 we decided to go off roading. "Mudding" would be more accurate. Epworth road north of the Lloyd was a mess! Once we crossed the Lloyd I emptied my socks and shoes of gravel and scraped about 2 inches of mud from the treads of my shoes. My feet suddenly felt pounds lighter. Life is good....so I think.
About mile 5 I have a cramp in my stomach. No big deal these things happen and go away. On these long runs pains come, go, come back and then numb. It's the beauty of the human body. Submission. However, this time no luck it just got worse. To spare you of the details I was miserable until mile 8 which is where 24 hour Walgreens became a saving grace! Bathroom stop and half a pack of Tums and back on track!
I didn't feel all that great the rest of the run and was couch bound for a few hours when I got home. Izzie told me "I'll be your Mommy. Do you need medicine?" After Dora, Diego, Backyardigans and a bowl of cheerios I was feeling much better. Dr. Isabelle definitely saved the day!
Sorry to my running partner....I did have a few extra walk breaks today! In the future there will be NO pre-run Red Bull!
