It's 3:30pm and my car now smells of a wet dog. Hmmmm....I don't have a dog? Today's run started at 4am (we were REALLY sleeping in today) with a clear starry sky. Plan was to run 3.5 hours.....remember, God laughs at "our plans." Started out nice, while it was warm and humid there was a nice breeze. That should have been a red flag. We knew the rain was supposedly coming but how many times have we heard that forecast in the past week?!? Of all days for the forecast to be right!
We headed west from TriState Athletic Club towards Hwy 41. As we ran west we noticed that the stars were no longer present and saw a few bolts of lightening but no rain so.....game on! We crossed the Llyod and crossed Lincoln Avenue and headed toward Bosse High School. The breeze started to pick up. Then about 5:45am we were crossing Alvord Boulevard and BAM.....the sky opened up and a torrential down pour began. Oh well, at first you care but then you are just so soaked it doesn't even matter. We started up Washington Avenue and the lightening began.
So here we are on the road, running through puddles as if we are daring the lightening? At this point, because we think so logically :), we decided to call it a day outside and finish up our miles on the treadmill later in the day. So we began to bolt (no pun intended here) up Hebron and cut over Lincoln Avenue to Greenriver to cut back. I am sure the people in the cars thought we were crazy. We wouldn't have argued; we had to look like idiots! We were zig-zagging all over the place trying to avoid the puddles and failing miserably! We passed Shylers BBQ on Greenriver road, and as I looked up from my concentration to avoid the puddles I saw a large city bus coming toward our path. No big deal, we are on the side walk, right? Wrong. The bus hit a large lake on the shoulder of the road and the tsunami hit. But seriously, at this point, I don't know why I even cared. My shoes had about an inch of water in the bottom and water was dripping from my hat like a faucet. Elissa decided to take a running plunge into a puddle at the end of our run just to make sure not an inch of either of our bodies were dry....and she succeeded.
We got back to TriState with 2 hours and 15 min total running time. The remaining 1 hour and 15 minutes were after a change of clothes on a treadmill. So today's 22 miles were not ideal but we lived. As far as I know there are no electric currents running through my body. My vehicle, however, could use a little fresh air!
