37 miles, 6 hours and feeling GREAT!!!!!

Ok, so up until this point I have been a skeptic. In the back of my mind I just wasn't sure I could really complete a 50 mile race. Today is a new day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We had an awesome run. I honestly felt better than I have on our short runs lately. 2 hours after I feel totally fine. The weather was perfect, we had great company- thank you Angie and Sasha. We joined Angie who is training for a fall marathon for her 20 mile run and then Sasha ran miles 20-25 with us. So I only had to put up with Elissa for 12 miles :) Just kidding! The craziest thing about the run was that by the end I really couldn't remember the beginning of our run. I totally forgot where we had been, or in this case, been 2-3 times. You can only do so much with a 37 mile route. I think we were on Washington Avenue and Stockwell Rd three different times. I am pretty sure the soccer teams were wondering what in the heck we were doing!

Our overall pace was a 9:43 per mile. I am really excited about that because our walk breaks were 2 minutes every 15 minutes ( every 10 min for the last hour) and this pace included our walk breaks!

We originally had no time goal....which I am still trying to not have a time in mind. HOWEVER, ultras are just like marathons. There is an ultimate qualification time. That time is always in the back of your mind once you know it. To qualify for the Western States 100 you need to do a 50 miler in 9 hours or under. Well, today we covered 37 miles in 6 hours. That gives us 3 hours to do 13 more miles. I really wish I didn't know this?!? But, I will be happy to cross the 50 mile finish line no matter what the time!

Thanks for the prayers! Today was honestly a turning point in training for me and I am finally excited about this race!
