Back on the wagon....

Ok, so it's been awhile since I have posted about our running. We have had lots of fundraiser posts for other people, which is much more purposeful than our training. I am sure some people think it's strange, conceited, or just a total waste of time to blog about your running/training. For me, it's for the memories. I look back at our blogs from our last 50 mile training plan and I seriously laugh until I cry (yes, most of it is only funny to me). I don't know if it's the years of aspartame or having a kid, but if I don't write it down I typically don't remember it for very long. Honestly our long, long runs are typically like comedy hour(s) and as weird as it sounds I always have fun on our 20+ mi runs. One day, when my knees are shot and I am bobbing up and down doing water aerobics :) I can read the stories and remember the good times. So, that is really why I blog about our training runs.
Well, we have really been unmotivated this summer. Many a texts at 4:15 am that say "let's just skip today" or "how about running later?" have been sent. This heat has brought many nauseating, sluggish runs that leave you feeling drained about mid-afternoon. I am totally NOT a fan of summer running in Evansville. I also think treadmill running does not equate in pace or getting your body ready for road racing, so I rarely run on them unless it's a warm-up. Don't get me wrong, the dreadmill serves a purpose in bad weather conditions, but it does a lot of the work for you and leaves you with aching knees and IT bands.
Last week the weather dropped about 5-10 degrees and my motivation went up about 90%. Luckily, so did Elissa's :). We decided it was time for another 50 miler. It has been a year since our last 50 and we are ready for another. So we signed up for the Nashville Ultra on October 16th. It is it's 3rd year running, so it's rather small but sounds like a nice course. It goes through Nashville and is only a couple loops :). We are planning on running our first 100 miler in the spring of 2011, so we would like to get at least one 50-miler in, if not two before then.
So last Saturday we set out for an easy 20 miler (easy I mean pace). We had company, Marshall and Sara. The more people, the bigger the party. I told Marshall he would make the blog because we had so much fun. Our first highlight was our good Samaritan deed. A lady was in the middle of the road in a wheelchair with her dog's leash wrapped around a tire. I was really helpful in this situation, I talked to Max the dog during the rescue. Kuddos, Marshall and Elissa for the lift and execution as well as exhalation. :)
We got to do some window shopping at the finest consignment shops. One called "Big Chicks Consignment"...I wish I was kidding on the name. Then we moved onto the Budweiser Clydesdale's at Harpoles/Woody's parking lot. We stopped to say hi to the, ummm, boys. I did not know the Budweiser horses were on tour in the 'Ville. Nor did I know the had names and their own little personal stables (I guess this is pent house living in horse world). Rudy, was ticked and wanted some food. Don, was just "hanging out" (literally). The Clydesdale's are big....that's all I'm going to say about that.
Our fuel stop was much classier than our typical mile 17 Donut Bank stop. We were accompanied by the infamous Dr Howell, so we were guests of St Mary's doc lounge. We dined on bananas, cookies, and Dt. Dew. I don't know if I can go back to Donut Bank slummin?
I think we ran, in between assisting, horsing around, and eating? All I know is my Garmin said 20 miles were covered and I stopped the same way I started.....laughing.
